Cost per lead flatters marketing that fills the board with cancellations and repeat customers. Cost per completed job and cost per new customer show what growth really costs.

How to use it

How to Get a True Cost Per Booked Job

Count all of the marketing cost

Ad spend plus management fees, call tracking and software. Leaving the fees out makes every channel look cheaper than it is

Pull every count from the same month

Leads, booked jobs, completed jobs and new customers should cover the same month, ideally from your call tracking and your field software

Judge growth by cost per new customer

Repeat customers would have called anyway. Cost per new customer tells you what it costs to grow

FAQ

Questions We Get Asked About Cost Per Booked Job

Straight answers to the questions owners ask us before they hire us

Your total marketing cost for the month divided by the jobs booked from marketing leads that month. It sits between cost per lead, which ignores whether the lead booked, and cost per completed job, which also counts cancellations.

A cancelled job costs the same to book as one you finish. If a lot of booked jobs cancel, the real cost of each completed job is higher than the booking number suggests.

It shows what growth costs. Repeat customers and members often call anyway, so counting them makes marketing look cheaper than it is. A new customer is also the start of future repeat work.

Leads come from call tracking and form submissions. Booked and completed jobs come from your field software, such as ServiceTitan or Housecall Pro. New customers are completed jobs for customers with no earlier job on file.
