How to use it

How to Get an Accurate Marketing Budget

Start with the revenue marketing has to produce

Use new revenue from marketing, not total revenue. Repeat and maintenance work that comes in anyway does not need a marketing budget

Use your real booking rate

Booked jobs divided by leads, from your call tracking or field software. Guessing 50% when the real number is 30% understates the budget by 40%

Read the percentage, then fix the funnel

If the budget lands above 20% of the revenue it produces, lift your booking rate or average job value before you add ad spend

FAQ

Questions We Get Asked About HVAC and Plumbing Marketing Budgets

Straight answers to the questions owners ask us before they hire us

It depends on how fast you want to grow. As a share of the revenue marketing produces, 10% or less keeps you steady, 10% to 15% is a growth budget, and 15% to 20% is hyper growth for shops with the crews to take the work. Above 20%, fix your booking rate and job value before adding spend.

Yes. The calculator gives the total cost of the leads you need at your current cost per lead, so it covers ad spend and what it costs to run it. Our package prices and the fee on ad spend are on the package and fee calculator.

Every lead you do not book still costs the same. At a 50% booking rate you pay for two leads per booked job, and at 25% you pay for four. Answering faster, using a call script and following up on every lead raises the booking rate and cuts the budget you need without touching ad spend.

Plan by year and spend by month. Enter a yearly goal to see the monthly budget, then weight spend toward your busy seasons. Heating and cooling demand moves through the year, so a flat monthly budget rarely fits an HVAC company.
