How to Read Your Channel Scorecard

Cheap leads are not the same as profit

The channel with the lowest cost per lead is often not the one that makes the most money. Compare profit after marketing

Include what it costs to run each channel

Put management fees and software in each channel's monthly cost, and your SEO fee in the SEO row, so every row is compared the same way

Move budget toward the top of the list

Trim the channels marked as losing money, add to the most profitable one, then score the channels again next month

FAQ

Questions We Get Asked About Marketing Channel Profitability

Straight answers to the questions owners ask us before they hire us

It changes from market to market, which is why the scorecard uses your numbers. The channel with the cheapest leads is often not the most profitable once booking rate and job value are counted.

Revenue from the channel times your gross margin, minus what the channel cost that month. It is what the channel added after job costs and marketing costs.

No. Google Search Ads are pay-per-click: you pay for clicks and send them to your own landing pages. Local Services Ads charge per lead and show the Google Guaranteed or Google Screened badge. They behave differently, so score them separately.

Count any referral fees, gifts or referral software you pay for. If referrals cost nothing, the scorecard still shows their profit but leaves them out of the cheapest paid leads comparison.
